Cornsnakes > Buttermel

Pantherophis guttata

In the winter of 2006/7 we lost our old male Candy Cane during hibernation. With no male backup for the female Candy Cane it was decided to cross her with the Butter Motley male and the results were animals which initially looked like very special Candy Canes but which gradually developed a surrounding orange background to the saddles. Essentially these animals were amelanistic (from the Candy Cane) with Butter hence we coined the name Buttermel which really just indicates the genetic origins rather than indicating a new actual morph. These animals have the potential when bred together to produce normal and motley phase of the following colour morphs, Butter, Candy Cane and Buttermel.
