The Blood Python, in the wild, can be found in the vast rice fields and plains of Sumatra, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Feeding on mice and rats and rabbits and all number of small mammals in the rice fields and grasslands of Sumatra. Much maligned for aggressive behaviour I have never found this with captive bred animals I find all young snakes to be nervous but as they mature they gain confidence. For such a heavy bodied snake they can move with impressive speed when food is on the go. Due to their terrestrial nature they are nervous when picked up but if supported properly they will remain calm. These are in my opinion gentle giants averaging 5-7 feet but very heavy bodied for their size. Blood pythons are a passion of mine I have always found them beautiful and when I was able to own my first red it was like a dream come true the colours they show are truly fantastic and have to be seen in the flesh to do them justice
